I’m a boxing world champion who Googled my Miss Maxim wife before first date, which ended at strip club

Former super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has had big fights in the past but nothing compares to the first date with his now wife.

Froch is happily married to Rachael, whom he has three kids having met nearly 15 years ago.

Despite just conquering Jean Pascal in the ring for the WBC super-middleweight title - his first world title - it was meeting up with the future Mrs Froch gave The Cobra a case of the nerves.

He even searched her name on Google, finding out she had won the Miss Maxim beauty contest, a competition for models.

And regaling their first-ever date on his YouTube channel Froch on Fighting, it ended up being quite the night as they found themselves in a strip club.

In a Q&A, one fan asked the couple who made the first move in their relationship and where was their first date.

Froch gave Rachael the floor to answer, and she responded: "Fifteen years ago now, it was! Long time ago.

"We first met through a mutual friend and it was kind of a blind date."

Froch then added: "He used to work for my promoter. He knew you through… she was Miss Maxim Global actually.

"I Googled. Had a look and I thought, 'oh she looks alright. Yeah I'll have a little date with her'."

Rachael replied: "I had already looked you up," before Froch interjected: "She already knew who I was," as the two laughed.

Froch then recalled he plucked up the courage to make the first move shortly after he beat Jean Pascal in December 2008."

Rachael continued: "So you texted me before we met and I was with my dad."

Froch then referenced David Brent from sitcom The Office' to explain his wooing. "It is hard to phone somebody. I always messaged you, said I'd give you a call and I did. I charmed you."

But Rachael then accused Froch of double booking her, which he explained. "Oh I had a potential sponsor, I met him and I invited you along to the meal."

Rachael cut in and asked: "Do you remember the end of it? We ended going to a strip club!

"It was Spearmint Rhino, I tell you what. It was fun. I was dancing on the table and all the women got on the table with me."

Froch said: "Went to a strip club on our first date!"

Froch retired in 2014 and hung up his gloves as one of Britain's finest boxers with a record of 33-2.

He had notable wins over Jermain Taylor, Mikkel Kessler and George Groves - in front of 80,000 at Wembley - and will rightly be inducted into Hall of Fame's class of 2023.
